Silk Dyed Easter Eggs

The eggs above are less a result of it being Easter and more my insane need to craftify everything.  Get some old silk ties (any excuse to go thrifting!), wrap them around uncooked eggs, wrap again with an old white sheet and hardboil ’em with a little vinegar.  More detailed instructions here.

Easter Sunday was also my bf’s momma’s birthday, so in addition to the beautiful Italian dinner made my my godfather, she got treated to a Straight Outta Chocolate cake.  She loves German Chocolate Cake, and she loves beer.  I combined both loves into this:

I usually find German Chocolate Cake too sickly sweet, but I found a recipe from the Baked cookbook that majorly toned down the sweetness.  It helped that I recently invested in some crazy Valrohna cocoa powder.

All in all, a very loud, raucous and completely successful night!
